2014 has been a landmark year for Sam Smith, and as of last week, he is officially a six-time Grammy nominee. With the holiday's soon approaching, he chose to sing a stripped-down cover of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," which was made famous by Judy Garland in the 1994 musical Meet Me In St. Louis. Smith stays faithful to the original against sparse chords on a grand piano with his voice angelic as always. The song is now available on iTunes.
"Normally I hate Christmas songs," Smith wrote on Instagram, "but I love this one because of Frank & Judy. Hope you all enjoy. Love you all so much xx."
Smith's debut album In The Lonely Hour has made him a household name and has earned him nominations in major categories including Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
He spoke with Access Hollywood at the KIIS FM Jingle Ball at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Friday night about being tied for the most nominations with Beyoncé and Pharrell.
"People keep asking me how I feel and I genuinely, I don't know how I feel, and I feel shocked and it's not real," Smith told them. "It doesn't feel real."
As for which nomination he would be most excited to win?
"All of them... Obviously Album of the Year is just, is just huge," he said. "So that would be the one I would I'm most excited about. But walking away with any Grammy would just be incredible."
The Grammys will take place on February 8 in Los Angeles.
