Modest Mouse will be releasing a new album in 2015. After teasing what seemed to be a new single called "Lampshades on Fire" earlier this week, a representative from the band's label has confirmed that a follow-up to 2007's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank will be released in the first quarter of 2015.
In a statement to REVOLT, Epic Records confirmed that a new Modest Mouse LP will be released in quarter one of the New Year, meaning there will finally be that long-awaited follow up before March's end.
In anticipation of the band's sixth studio album, it has been confirmed that the new song will premiere on radio on Monday, Dec. 15. According to radio personalities from various outlets, "Lampshades on Fire" will service as the album's lead single.
"Lampshades on Fire" has been a longtime staple in Modest Mouse's live set, first appearing at concerts in 2011. As Music Times previously reported, Modest Mouse made a splash on social media earlier this week when it joined Instagram to post a basic vinyl pressing of a "Side A 'Lampshades on Fire.'"
The new album, which has yet to receive a title or official release date beyond "Quarter 1 2015," will be Modest Mouse's first new recorded effort since the 2009 EP No One's First and You're Next.
Despite not releasing a new album in over seven years, Modest Mouse have been regulars on the touring circuit, appearing at numerous festivals and even touring the U.S. this summer.
