Saturday night, Neil Young hosted his annual Bridge School Benefit concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. The evening featured an all-star lineup inluding Arcade Fire, Queens of the Stone Age, My Morning Jacket, Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis, Tom Waits and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Arcade Fire performed an original new track with Young called "I Dreamed a Neil Young Song." Win Butler explained to the audience that he came up with the idea in a dream.
"So this next song is really special, " he said. "This is the only time this has ever happened to me in my entire life. I had a dream, not unlike this, we were soundchecking, and there were huge bright lights on my face. It was empty and people started leaving while we were soundchecking. It's like a night terror I have all the time. I woke up and remembered everything. I was half asleep and started playing it, wrote down the lyrics, and listened back to the tape recording, and it was basically a Neil Young song."
The band also played "The Suburbs," "Reflektor," "Normal Person." On "Wake Up," Young accompanied them on harmonica. Arcade Fire's latest album, Reflektor, is due out tomorrow via Merge. The band shared a full stream of the effort late last week.
