The Brits just love themselves some Ed Sheeran. In the same week that Ben Haenow's "Something I Need" gets the much-coveted Christmas No. 1 spot on the singles chart in the U.K., Sheeran's x once again returned to the top of the albums chart, proving that the "Thinking Out Loud" singer's music makes just the perfect British stocking stuffer.
According to The Official Charts Company, Sheeran has not only his best album sales of the year with x this week but also the best album sales for any solo artist. Leading up to Boxing Day, x sold a remarkable 214,000 copies in the U.K., easily landing Sheeran the top spot in the country.
Sheeran's best-selling distinction comes with a bit of a dismissive; his album is not the fastest-selling LP of 2014 in the U.K. That honor would go to Now! That's What I Call Music 89. The pop music album, which features hits from Meghan Trainor, Olly Murs, One Direction and even Ed Sheeran, sold 224,000 copies upon its release on Nov. 21.
Sheeran leads a big album sales week in the United Kingdom, filled largely with some of 2014's most popular titles. Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour clocked in at No. 2 ahead of Olly Murs's Never Been Better, George Ezra's Wanted on Voyage and Take That's III, which held the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
One Direction's FOUR, Michael Buble's Christmas, Taylor Swift's 1989, Barbra Streisand's Partners and Pink Floyd's The Endless River round out the top 10, in order.
