Sara Evans Talks 'At Christmas' Album, Trying To Make a Holiday Staple

There's something exciting about a brand new Christmas song: Each one has the chance to be immortalized as a bona fide holiday tradition (though few actually are). Sara Evans is giving it her best shot this December with the release of At Christmas, a collection of mostly cover songs that includes the original "At Christmas," written by Shane Stevens.

"From the first time I heard 'At Christmas,' I knew I had to record it and put it on the album," she told AL.com (via The Boot). "Since it's the only original song, it made the most sense to also call the album 'At Christmas,' too."

Remember that whole "immortalized" discussion we had a couple paragraphs ago? We're not trying to put pressure on Evans—she's doing it to herself.

"It reminds me of the Mariah Carey song 'All I Want for Christmas Is You,'" Evans said. "It just sounds and feels like a song that you've been hearing and singing along to for years. I hope that ends up being the case years from now!"

She continued: "To me, it sounds like one of those songs that could turn into a new standard that gets played every year."

Here's the tracklist for At Christmas:

01. At Christmas
02. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
03. The Twelve Days of Christmas (featuring Olivia & Audrey)
04. Silent Night
05. Winter Wonderland
06. O Holy Night
07. Run Rudolph Run
08. I'll Be Home For Christmas
09. Go Tell it on the Mountain
10. O Come All Ye Faithful

"I've always loved 'O Holy Night' and had the privilege of recording it for 'At Christmas,'" Evans said. "Most people don't know the other verses, but I made sure to record more on my version. It's so powerful and moving."
