It looks like Jennifer Lopez won't be joining Britney Spears in Las Vegas, after all. After rumors that the "Booty" singer was eyeing a lucrative residency at Caesars Entertainment's Colosseum, it seems as though she was demanding too much money to finally ink the deal. But, another big name diva, Mariah Carey, could be the next to head to Sin City.
Though Lopez performed for an exclusive audience on New Year's Eve in Vegas this year, further fueling rumors that she was heading for a residency, she was asking too much to perform for the long run, according to The Las Vegas Sun.
"There's no way the numbers can work out for a residency with just 4,000 seats. She's an arena act now, but hopefully one day she'll see the advantages of staying put in one place for less money than touring," a source from Caesars Entertainment told the newspaper, putting the rumors to rest as quickly as they started.
With Lopez's name out of the conversation, rumors are now flying that Mariah Carey may actually be the one to take on the city.
The Sun also reports that Carey's name is out now to fill up the empty venue left by Celine Dion, who is caring for her ailing husband, René Angéli and has stopped performing in the meanwhile.
Reports state that Carey's announcement will come in the next few weeks.
None of these rumors would be possible without the high profile residency of Britney Spears in Las Vegas. The 33-year-old pop star, who first joined the Strip in 2013, has brought a renewed sense of youthfulness to Vegas, making the idea of an exclusive residency no longer the thing of have-beens.
