Joey Bada$$ Responds to Assault Allegations Stemming from Byron Bay Falls Festival Incident in Australia

Allegations recently surfaced over the weekend that Joey Bada$$, real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, was arrested and charged with assault for punching a security guard at Falls Festival in Byron Bay, Australia. Scott has responded to the allegations on Twitter, asking fans to not "believe everything you see or hear."

According to reports, allegedly what had happened was the security guard thought Joey Bada$$ was not who he said he was and told him he did not have to go home, but he had to get out of there. Bada$$ said boo-yah and assaulted the man. The alleged incident took place around 8:30 p.m., right before Scott's set time. According to a police spokeswoman via the Sydney Morning Herald, "A 20-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face by a man while working as a security guard at the festival. The man was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries." Bada$$ was arrested after his set Friday night, Jan. 2, and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He appeared in court Saturday and was released on bail. His next court date is March 19. Joey Bada$$'s camp released the following statement via The Fader: "Joey can confirm that there was a misunderstanding with security at the Byron Falls Festival show, which resulted in charges being laid by NSW Police. After fully cooperating with Police, Joey was granted bail and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge." Despite the legal troubles, Bada$$ is still in Australia for a short string of shows in the major cities with Run the Jewels and still seems excited about it. His upcoming album, B4.DA.$$, is scheduled to be released Jan. 20.
