N.E.R.D. Contributes Two Additional Tracks To The 'SpongeBob Movie' Soundtrack Following "Squeeze Me" Release

After releasing their new track titled "Squeeze Me" last month for the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants movie soundtrack, N.E.R.D. (Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shae Haley) announced they have two more tracks in store for the film called "Patrick Star" and "Sandy Squirrel," named after SpongeBob's best friends. Both songs are expected to drop in the coming weeks, the Wall Street Journal reports.

"We loved going into the studio to make music for this film," Williams said in a statement. "I am one of SpongeBob's biggest fans -- can't wait for everyone to hear the songs."

Haley added: "It was a complete honor to be a part of this project. SpongeBob and N.E.R.D. share the same belief that imagination is the key to everything."

In an interview with Variety last month, Hugo said the group was trying "not to think too much in a cartoon sense but more like just a psychedelic, otherworldly type of thing. If you want to draw a parallel, maybe think of what The Beatles did with Yellow Submarine."

N.E.R.D. reunited during Pharrell's set at Odd Future's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival back in November. Until "Squeeze Me," the group hadn't released music since their 2010 album Nothing.

This isn't the first time Pharrell has had a hand in an animated movie soundtrack. His massive hit "Happy" was written for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.

As far as a proper N.E.R.D. album Williams teased the possibility to Radio.com back in October saying, "I can't say right now. But that's good news. It's really good news."

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water soundtrack will be released in 3-D is due out in theaters Feb. 6.
