LL Cool J has been tapped to host Spike TV's upcoming adaptation of The Tonight Show's bit, Lip Sync Battle. Jimmy Fallon, John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant are signed on as executive producers. The show will run for 10 episodes starting April 2, Deadline reports.
"Like the rest of the world, I'm a big fan of these battles, but this show is going to bring it to a whole new level. I'm thrilled to be working with Jimmy Fallon, John Krasinski, Stephen Merchant, and the entire team to host the show and can't wait for the fans at home to join in," LL Cool J said.
Viewers were treated to the bit when Fallon was still on Late Night (Krasinski was the first challenger). Since then, Merchant, Paul Rudd, Emma Stone, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton all faced off against The Tonight Show host.
"Lip sync battling is one of the coolest things happening in pop culture right now and already has a huge fan base thanks to the amazing talent involved," Viacom Entertainment's Casey Patterson told The Hollywood Reporter. "We're thrilled to be in business with producers as talented as Jimmy, John and Stephen as Spike broadens its programming in new and exciting ways."
LL Cool J's last album, Authentic, dropped in 2013. It hit 23 on the Billboard 200 and seven on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. The record featured an array of talent, including Eddie Van Halen, Snoop Dogg, Travis Barker and Brad Paisley.
The rapper has hosted award shows in the past and currently appears on NCIS: Los Angeles.
