Metallica's recent studio update was short, sweet and to the point. The boys took to Instagram to post a picture of Robert Trujillo recording some bass parts in a studio. The band is hard at work on the follow-up to 2008's spectacular Death Magnetic album, NME notes.
The caption for Trujillo's photo fittingly reads, "rockin along." One member — Lars Ulrich? — even managed to sneak in some devil horns. That is how you know it is good.
Trujillo actually spoke to NME last month to offer a more descriptive update on the new material the band is working on.
"We're just blueprinting everything right now," he said. "There are a lot of ideas, a lot of song bodies; you gotta go through the process. For me personally, I'm really excited about what we've been able to jam out."
He went on to highlight the songwriting process.
"I don't like to make predictions, but I'd like to think — at least for me — that I'm really happy with what's happening instrumentally. So let's see how that journey continues. Writing a Metallica song is a journey and a process, and it takes time. But that's what's special about it. Metallica likes to nurture a song, nurture an arrangement."
Metallica has plenty of time to lay some tracks down since their first live appearance of 2015 is not scheduled until May's Rock in Rio in Las Vegas.
Death Magnetic marked a new period of success for the band. It hit No. 1 on most charts around the world behind songs like "The Day That Never Comes," "All Nightmare Long" and "Cyanide." The ninth studio album received glowing reviews by multiple outlets.
