Pepsi Pulse, a sub-site within pepsi.com dedicated to music, has listed five hip-hop albums that it wants to hear during 2014 (which is odd...based on what Pusha T tells us, hip hope is more of a Coke genre...sorry, bad joke). The list includes fairly stellar choices, but Music Times had a few others in mind we're more interested in. Our suggestions for three replacements:
PEPSI'S SUGGESTION: A New Nas Album
OUR BETTER IDEA: Don't get us wrong...Nas is an incredible emcee, but he's also put out plenty of albums. We'd love to hear more, but we're more curious to finally getting a new LP from Dr. Dre. There have been rumors of a third album from the producer/rapper for years, and he hasn't given us one since 1999'2 2001. His protege Eminem has grown so much as a performer since then, it'd be interesting to see how Dre's gotten with age.
PEPSI'S SUGGESTION: An Andre 3000 Solo Album
OUR BETTER IDEA: We're wishy-washy all over this one. There's no doubt that Andre's half of 2003's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" produced hits like few other albums this millennium. But that doesn't mean we like it more than Outkast classics like Stankonia and Aquemini. We know we should consider ourselves lucky that he and Big Boi are getting back together for Coachella, but we'd really appreciate a new album again.
PEPSI'S SUGGESTION: A New Watch The Throne Album
OUR BETTER IDEA: There were a couple great tracks on the first Kanye West/Jay Z record...and the rest was a little half-baked. We're cheating on this one a little bit, as the artists involved have already stated their intentions to release an album next year, but Run The Jewels-a "supergroup" consisting of Killer Mike and El-P-released an awesome LP this year, and we trust they can do it again during 2014.
