The Black Eyed Peas ruled pop radio in 2009 with two wildly popular hits, "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling." The group released one album following that period of stardom, 2010's The Beginning, before members pursued solo careers. Fergie, aka Stacy Ferguson, is one of the more prominent member of the group, and she recently told The Guardian that it was tough performing those songs night after night.
"When you perform songs every night, you do tend to get sick of listening to yourself," she said, laughing. "But at the same time, what takes you out of that is the audience, because you get out of your own psyche and into their vibe."
The singer has been working on new music and is in the midst of learning how to be a mother and renovating her home. Her most recent single "L.A. Love (La La)," produced by DJ Mustard, came out in September and hit 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It's the first tune from her upcoming second album, a follow-up to 2006's The Dutchess. She talked about her solo recording hiatus, during which time she recorded two albums with The Black Eyed Peas.
"I got pregnant, started renovating our house, which was a genius move, had to move out of the house while pregnant, moved into a rental property, had the baby, moved back into the house – which still isn’t done by the way – and then started figuring out how to be a mom," she said. "With my workout time, my husband time, my mommy time and getting back in the studio, there’s been a lot. But all the while I’ve been writing and every time I get an idea, I record it and write it down, so now I’m finally getting to finish all of these ideas."
While Fergie's new effort is reportedly due out this year, there's no word on when The Black Peas will put out new music. According to Digital Spy, will.i.am was planning to do something big for the group's 20th anniversary this year, but since Fergie hasn't been in BEP from the beginning, maybe she won't be involved.
"I was just in the studio last week and I saw Taboo there, and I heard something Will was doing, and it was great. But maybe the guys are doing something? I haven't been in the group for 20 years, so it's more their anniversary of being together for 20 years. So maybe they're putting out an album themselves," she added.
