Joey Bada$$ thinks the government is out to get him, and he believes he has proof. Ever since a photo of Malia Obama surfaced on the internet wearing a Pro Era shirt, Joey Bada$$'s clothing brand, the government has been investigating a potential security breach into Malia's online activities and devices. In a recent interview with Sway in the Morning on Sirius XM, Bada$$ discussed in large part the new album B4.DA.$$ and the reception to it, but also revealed that he may be being watched by the federal government.
According to Bada$$, real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, he believes the federal government is tapping his phone and watching home. He describes the situation:
"When you got the leader of the free world's daughter wearing your shirt," he says, "I guess they start to investigate. They got my whole crib surrounded...I don't sleep. I hear the clicks in my phone."
While he does not provide further proof, he does not come off as a paranoid, Area-51 conspiracy theorist and instead seems to find some humor in the whole alleged situation. Joey Bada$$ did not recognize who Malia was at the time he saw the picture, but once he realized who was wearing the shirt, he knew it was big. The whole situation could not have come at a better time for Scott since it gave him international publicity across all sorts of media platforms just at the time of his album release. Could Obama be a part of the Bada$$ marketing team? It seems too convenient.
Elsewhere in the interview, Scott talks women in Australia, his album, inaccurate media portrayals and much more. Watch the whole thing below via Sway In The Morning and skip to 5:28 for the section on phone tapping.
