In the midst of a tumultuous legal battle with his label Cash Money Records, Lil Wayne is tired of waiting to release new music. Following the release of his mixtape Sorry 4 the Wait 2 last month and ahead of the up-in-the-air Tha Carter V, Tunechi logged onto Twitter in the wee hours of the morning today (Feb. 5) to announce a free album for his fans, The Free Weezy Album.
"The Free Weezy Album...komin soon #FWA," Lil Wayne announced, before clarifying what exactly he meant with a little more of a lucid tweet.
Details surrounding The Free Weezy Album are scarce, though as Lil Wayne teased the album should be released "soon."
And it's not the only free offering the Young Money boss has in his wheelhouse. Wayne is also reportedly working on another new mixtape with DJ Drama, Dedication 6. DJ Drama made the subtle announcement on his Instagram earlier this week, detailing Wayne's expected 2015 releases. "Sorry for the Wait 2. Carter V. Dedication 6," he wrote alongside a photo of himself with Weezy and Mack Maine.
The free music releases from Lil Wayne follow a tumultuous battle between the rapper, his mentor Birdman and his longtime label Cash Money Records. As Music Times previously reported, Wayne is suing Cash Money for $51 million over royalties for The Carter V as well as a longtime pattern of the label withholding money from its flagship artist.
