For the third year in a row, music site Songkick has compiled a list of the "19 hardest working bands" in show business. The list takes two factors into consideration: the performers' total number of shows played, combined with the total distance travelled to play those shows. This year's winner was Local Natives: The rock band played a total of 188 shows (more than any other act on the list), while traveling around 192,486 km.
Despite the huge number of shows, Local Natives was unable to take the crown for longest distance travelled. That prize went to Alt-J, who travelled a total of 251,443 km, a total Songkick graphed to demonstrate that the band would have made it around 60 percent of the way to the moon. The group managed to play in six continents during its 2013 travels.
Kendrick Lamar did good work this year bringing attention to himself as a performer, and he theoretically earned second place based on his travels as well. The rapper took second for both distance travelled and shows played. Other noteworthy accomplishments include the performances of Willie Nelson and Two Door Cinema Club, the only two acts who have placed on each of Songkick's yearly charts. Two Door played 142 shows, while traveling more than 200,000 km. Nelson played 143 shows, although he "only" travelled around 70,000 km. We'll give him a pass. He's 80.
The site was also eager to point out that 2013 marked the first time that pop acts have appeared on the chart. One Direction, Justin Bieber and Pink appeared, at nos. 7, 11, and 18 respectively.
