The song and the video really is a teaser. Clocking in at just two minutes, 41 seconds, "How Big How Blue How Beautiful" feels more like an interlude and less like a single. Trumpets and orchestral strings make up most of the music here, with Florence Welch's vocals contained mostly to the front of the track with her signature "Ohs" and her repeating the song's title, filled with emotion.
But the trumpets build and build into a cinematic explosion of brass, with as much beauty as any church hymn. And Florence and the Machine are ready to take us to church.
The music video is fittingly grandiose and cinematic. In the middle of a lush forest with a rocky stage, Welch dances with her double underneath a perfect big, blue, beautiful sky. Ending with the band's name, it's hard not to get hyped for more new music.
And more new music is exactly what's on the way for Florence and the Machine. Consequence of Sound reports that Florence and the Machine held a record listening party in London on Feb. 9, playing the new LP in full. In addition to lead single "What Kind of Man," other song titles from the yet-to-be-titled Florence and the Machine album include "Ship to Wreck," "Delilah" and "Caught."
The new record will be Florence and the Machine's first effort since 2011's Ceremonials.
