Hollywood will welcome one of the music world's biggest stars for this year's Oscars. Lady Gaga recently confirmed on Instagram and Twitter that she will be singing at the awards show on Feb. 22. No word on what she's performing or if her mentor, Tony Bennett, will be with her. The pair performed on Sunday (Feb. 8) at the Grammys.
Producers for the show said that Gaga will grace the audience with a "very special performance," but that's about all we know at this point. As Billboard points out, Mother Monster might have been tapped to sing during the In Memoriam section of the awards show. Bette Midler performed "Wind Beneath My Wings" last year to pay tribute to all of the actors and actresses who died in 2013.
Gaga has been performing in support of her collaboration album, Cheek to Cheek, which she recorded with Bennett. The pair sang the title track from the album at the Grammys and brought in the New Year with a special concert in Las Vegas. They will link up in April for a trek that will run until August. It will be a definite change of pace for Gaga, who ended her festive ArtRAVE tour last year.
Cheek to Cheek went straight to number one on the Billboard 100 and Top Jazz Albums charts. The album received positive reviews from multiple outlets.
"The track list is, admittedly, a little dull. Luckily, the singing isn't. Bennett's voice is the leather armchair of American song: classy, sturdy, and still sigh-inducingly comfy, even though it's been around longer than anyone can remember. Gaga tickles his mischief; he, in turn, lifts her technique," Entertainment Weekly wrote.
