It's been more than a week since Kanye West almost crashed Beck's Album of the Year award speech at the Grammys, claiming Beyoncé should've won the honor. Since then, we've learned that West's concerns were more about the Grammys at large than Beck himself. However, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler, who himself has an Album of the Year Grammy, is keeping the controversy alive with a new mash-up of Kanye West's College Dropout hit "Jesus Walks" and Beck's 1993 classic "Loser."
Butler, who occasionally DJs under the name DJ Windows 98, tweeted the song "Jesus Walks, Loser," as well as brief thoughts on what the situation meant to him.
"There's lots of problems with modern music, but the problems aren't Beyonce, Kanye, or Beck," he wrote in his post.
Other than mashing up songs, Butler recently took part in the NBA All-Star Weekend, playing the All-Star Celebrity basketball game. The Canadian rocker scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the West team. And he even sported a pair of Kanye West's Yeezy Boots. His team ultimately won the game 59-51, beating out MVP Kevin Hart's East team.
Meanwhile, West had a busy last week himself. After performing twice at the Grammys, he hosted his New York Fashion Week show for the Kanye x adidas line, debuted the new song "Wolves" featuring Sia and Vic Mensa, then made a surprise cameo at Drake's concert and topped it all off with a three-song medley for Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary special.
What did you think of the "Jesus Walks"/ "Loser" mashup? Do you agree with Butler's statement about the problem with the industry not being Beyoncé, Kanye, and Beck but something bigger? Sound off in the comments section below!
