Alt-J (∆) stopped by Late Show with David Letterman last night in support of last year's debut album, An Awesome Wave. They performed a shaky, unenthusiastic version of "Fitzpleasure," but even when they aren't at their highest intensity, they can still make an intricate song like "Fitzpleasure" work live. According the band's Facebook page, it was the "final song we'll ever play in 2013."
Letterman seemed to enjoy the performance though, saying, "We don't see a lot of that anymore. Press 'Alt' and 'J' simultaneously, and you get the delta."
The band has been touring rigorously and was recently named the third hardest working group in show business by Songkick. Last month, they released a new EP called Summer which featured An Awesome Wave remixes from Jim James, Dave Sitek, Odd Future's the Internet, Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett, Hanz and Ben De Vries.
No plans for a full-length follow up have been announced, but the band told Rolling Stone back in September that they are in no rush and will wait until their tour is finished before they really start writing new material. "We'd all rather wait 'til we're back in one city and able to do it like we did it before," he told them. "We don't have too much pressure coming from anybody except the fans who want a new album. We haven't felt like 'Oh, crikey! We have to have a new album written by the end of the tour.'"
