Canadian electronic music festival, VELD Music Festival, has announced the first artist on its 2015 lineup. Brand ambassador, partial founder and Toronto native, deadmau5, is the first act revealed to play a headlining set at VELD.
Deadmau5 headlined the first two editions of VELD in 2012 and 2013 and has become part of the fabric of the festival, helping to build the name into a internationally recognized brand. He did not perform at last year's event, which surprised many, but deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, did not do the summer festival circuit as one normally does.
Past VELD lineups have includes acts like Calvin Harris, Armin van Buuren, Avicii, Sebastian Ingrosso, Martin Garrix, Above & Beyond, Kaskade, Knife Party, Nero and many others.
Tickets go on sale to the public Thursday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. EST, with an exclusive pre-sale beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 12 p.m. EST for American Express cardholders.
The festival takes place in Toronto at Downsview Park over the August Long Weekend, August 1-2.
More acts will be announced during the week ahead so stay tuned for more news coming from VELD in the next few days. Head to VELD's website for more information on tickets, the lineup and more.
Last year's event was mired with the deaths of two attendees and another 13 hospitalizations after what it was believed to be the festival-goers consumption of "molly" or some sort of "poison" according to Billboard. No additional security has been announced for this year or at least they have not trumpeted it like Electric Zoo after they had two attendees died on Randall's Island in 2013. We will see in the coming months if they go to the TSA-style checks that are becoming popular in the U.S.
