Arcade Fire announced on Thursday, not to all that much surprise, that they would be one of the headliners for the 2014 Glastonbury Music Festival. Both the band and the festival tweeted at around 12:30 EST that the group would headline Friday night at the event, on June 27.
"Next year, one week in June," tweeted Arcade Fire, accompanying a photo of a chalkboard showing the band's dates between June 23 and June 29. The group will also be playing the Rock in Roma festival on June 23, a gig in the Italian city of Villafranca di Verona on June 24, as well as playing Dublin's Marlay Park on June 29 following the stop at Glastonbury.
Frontman Win Butler had previously told BBC during an interview that the band was hoping to play some UK festival gigs during 2014, which generated speculation abut Glastonbury, the most established and esteemed of those festivals. The band's Dublin date has already been announced, so many assumed it was just a matter of figuring out whether Arcade would play on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Tickets have available since October, despite Arcade Fire being the first headliner announced.
Butler was apparently so excited about making the announcement, that he made some promises hi might regret, including the weather for the group's performance.
"The Friday is going to be a gorgeous, Californian sunshine day," he said. "If it's not, we'll refund your ticket."
We hope he knows that weekend tickets cost more than 200 pounds.
