Yesterday Kanye West spoke with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe about his thoughts on the Grammys and his controversial comments on Beck's Album of the Year win. Now he has made a public apology to the Morning Phase rocker via Twitter. Beck isn't the only stop on Ye's apology tour, however. He also apologized to Bruno Mars, whom he famously dissed in the past, and even admitted to wanting to work with Mars on a new song.
I would like to publicly apologize to Beck," he wrote on Twitter. "I'm sorry Beck."
Although Ye's situation with Beck is a more recent wound, his confrontation with Mars goes back to a Yeezus Tour stop at Brooklyn's Barclays Center in 2013. As MTV notes, West suggested that Mars didn't deserve the awards he'd one.
"I'm sitting there, I'm trying to enjoy motherf**kers performing, and sh*t. I'm looking, I'm watching Drake perform, I see Bruno Mars perform, and sh*t," Kanye told the crowd during one of his rants. "And then they start giving out awards and sh*t, and Bruno Mars won all the motherf**king awards, and sh*t."
Apparently he has since changed his mind on the "Uptown Funk" singer.
"I also want to publicly apologize to Bruno Mars, I used to hate on him but I really respect what he does as an artist," West tweeted, adding, "I also would love for Bruno to sing this hook on this song 88 Keys / Puff and I produced... I even asked Tyler to shoot the vid."
West appears to be finally grasping how other people perceive his comments. He joked with Lowe in their interview that he was like that guy trying to hit on a girl in a bar.
"I was using the wrong words. My rap was wrong. I was getting the drink thrown in my face as opposed to leaving with the girl at the end of the night," he explained. "Think about the type of wild sh*t I used to say in interviews, and imagine if someone said this very thing to a girl at a bar. 'Yo, what up, baby, I'm a genius.' They'd be like, 'Yo, who's this guy?' 'No, I'm telling you, I'm a genius. I sold all this, I sold this many shoes, da da da. And she'd be like, 'Yo, chill, chill. Like gosh, get me out of here already.' And that's who I was."
West is currently at work on his follow-up to 2013's Yeezus. He debuted his song "All Day" earlier this week at the BRIT Awards and has previously released the songs "Only One," "FourFiveSeconds," and "Wolves."
