Paul Simon Endures Awkward Q&A in 'Portlandia' [WATCH]

Paul Simon makes a guest appearance in a teaser for Thursday’s new episode of Portlandia, the satirical sketch comedy show dreamed up by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, and hilarity ensues.

In the teaser, Paul Simon is promoting a fake autobiography titled You Can Call Me Paul and starting the Q&A portion of the event when annoying hipster couple Kath (Brownstein) and Dave (Armisen) decide to try to impress their idol with their vast folk music knowledge.

Everyone has thought about what they would say to a celebrity or idol, but Dave and Carrie might have been too confident in their abilities.

“That is an intelligent person, that is who my real fans should be ... not all these other people,” thinks Dave, in an internal monologue while he not-so-patiently waited for other people to ask questions.

When Dave and Carrie finally seize their chance to dazzle Simon, Dave blows it. Dave stutters out a pompous half-question where he tells Paul Simon that he is as good of a “musically trained judge” as Simon is while bashing a unnamed folk band.

Paul Simon looks unamused as Dave continues his rant and then bluntly asks to move onto someone else’s question, but the annoying couple announces that the Q&A is over. Maybe they thought Simon would remember them fondly over that rant?

The music legend isn’t a stranger to comedy. He has hosted SNL and had his own comedy special.

It was also recently announced that Portlandia has been renewed for 6th and 7th season on IFC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

To see the full episode, you can tune into IFC on this Thursday, March 5, at 10 p.m. EST.
