David Gilmour, best known for his work as the guitarist of Pink Floyd, has announced the released of a solo album and a tour in support of it to commence during late 2015. An official date of release, or an official title, has yet to be offered for the new album.
The guitarist, like the rest of the characters that made up Pink Floyd, has an awfully sparse discography considering the levels of creativity he achieves in his music. The 2015 album will be just his fourth as a solo entity, and only the second since the original incarnation of Floyd folded during 1985. He released a self-titled album during 1978, in between Animals and The Wall, and then About Face during 1984 after his original band had released what many fans consider to be its last true album (arguing that a Pink Floyd without Roger Waters, as was the case of The Division Bell and The Endless River, is not a Pink Floyd at all).
Billboard unfortunately gave us quite the start when it ran a photo of Gilmour playing alongside Waters declaring that he would join the bassist for one live performance of The Wall...unfortunately that was just a case of forgetting to change the caption from an older photo. Indeed the two are still at odds over the release of River last year, an album that featured only Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason.
Gilmour last released a solo album during 2006 with On An Island.
The forthcoming tour, set to begin in September, certainly features some engaging venues (including the Pula Arena in Croatia...built in a former Roman amphitheater) if you're lucky enough to get a ticket. Or live in Europe. Check out the dates below:
