Kanye West and irony are pretty good pals. After Kanye was upset that Beck won the GRAMMY for Album of the Year for his release Morning Phase over his pal Beyonce, it came out Thursday via Reddit that Beck's father, David Campbell, worked on the 2006 Beyonce album B'Day.
Campbell, who himself is a renowned composer and conductor, contributed strings and conducting to the 2006 album that won a GRAMMY for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
When Beck accepted his award a few weeks ago, West stormed the stage -- turning back after thinking better of interrupting another acceptance speech. But after the awards, West told E! that Beck "needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce."
As has been noted by many, Beck's album had one producer (Beck) and one writer (Beck), whereas Beyonce's self-titled album had no less than 16 producers, herself being one of them.
West has already publicly apologized to Beck for his words and even recently gave Beck the credit he deserves for making a killer album:
"The other day I went out to dinner with Taylor Swift (who herself was once a victim of Kanye's stage crashing at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards) and ironically they were playing the Beck album in the background," West said on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club. "I was like, 'Man, this is kind of good. I ain't gonna lie.' ... I got his number, and I'm supposed to call him, but just keep forgetting."
Beck's father is pretty well regarded and has contributed to a number of massively critically and commercially successful albums, including Adele's 21, Justin Timberlake's Futuresex/Lovesounds, Linkin Park's Meteora, and Miley Cyrus' Bangerz. Quite a range of artists there, isn't it?
