After announcing that their debut album was finished Monday, March 9, Atlanta rap trio Migos sat down with The Fader today, March 11, to divulge details about the release date, the correct name and who will be featured on the LP. YRN Tha Album will be released June 16 and will feature Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Meek Mill.
Quavo described the sound of the album in a way that may surprise some people.
"We bringing that funk back. Y'all didn't know what the flow was, what were the origins. I call it funk. We gon' call it funk. The flow is funky. Migo funky flow. We gon' kill 'em with that gangsta s**t on the album. That's how we comin'. We got some throwback s**t, like some '80s lines and raps."
They emphasize they are not going to change with the album, partly a product of the trio owning their own label Quality Control Music, which gives them the platform to release music on their own time.
As they say, "We aren't going anywhere. We aren't going soft. We going to hit them in the mouth."
In addition to the star-studded features that start and end with Brown, Wayne and Mill, they are bringing on some quality producers as well. DJ Mustard, Zaytoven, TM88, De-Ko and Cheese have all loaned their talents to the upcoming album.
The trio just released a label showcase mixtape Migo Lingo last week, which had features from Migos, but highlighted the talent on Quality Control Music with artists like Rich the Kid, Mango Foo and others.
In addition to the album, the trio will also be releasing special YRN clothing, as you can see in the video, though I doubt it will be with Versace.
