Morrissey has come to find that novelists make more money than musicians. In a Q&A on his "zine" True To You, he revealed that he was working on two new projects, a novel and a new album. "In 2013 I published my Autobiography and it has been more successful than any record I have ever released, so, yes, I am midway through my novel," he posted. "I have my hopes."
As Rolling Stone points out, Morrissey also used this platform to complain about the music industry and how pop radio never plays his music. He claims that all of the artists at the top of the charts get there from labels buying the slots.
But despite his issues with the industry, he still is still inspired to record new music. "Well, we are about to record our new album, and one of the tracks is called 'Istanbul,'" he said. "It is second to Rome as my most favorite city in the world. When I'm in Istanbul, I feel as if I could never die. My life is matched."
He also mentioned in the Q&A the music he is listening to these days, citing singer-songwriter Melanie Safka as his current obsession, and clarified how music is still a driving factor in his life. "I never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever stop listening to music," he said. "I listen so much that it worries me. I lie in the bath and I shout my head off. Music can bring vegetables to life, and I should know because I'm a vegetable."
Morrissey will be dropping a deluxe reissue of 1992's classic solo album, Your Arsenal, on February 25.
