Back in February, Rihanna released the song "Towards The Sun," which is featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming DreamWorks animated movie Home. In addition to contributing music to the film, Rihanna also lends her voice to the character Tip.
In an interview with Good Morning America today, Rihanna spoke about the process of developing her character's voice.
"I tried to give her a little bit of my personality," the singer explained. "A little sweet, a little innocent, but she is sassy and she is vibrant, and that's what I think really connects with the fans. They kinda identify with her. They feel like they recognize her. She's a little familiar and even the accent comes out a lot of the time as well."
When asked what place she considers to be home, Rihanna replied, "Barbados will always feel like home to me, of course. But I pretty much feel like anywhere I could fall asleep."
Home hits theaters March 27. However, this isn't Rihanna's first time acting. She had a cameo in last year's Annie remake and played herself in 2013's This Is the End and 2006's Bring It On: All or Nothing. In 2012, she also had a role in Battleship.
Although few details have been given on her upcoming eighth studio album, she followed up her "FourFiveSeconds" single with Kanye West and Paul McCartney earlier this month with a teaser for the new song "Higher."
The soulful track features Rihanna singing in a raspy voice over sparse, classical strings.
"This whiskey got me feeling pretty / So pardon if I'm impolite / I just really need your ass with me," she sings on the first teaser clip before launching into, "Higher, higher than I've ever been babe / Just come over, let's pour a drink, babe / I hope I ain't calling you too late," on the second clip.
No word yet on when we can expect to hear the full song.
