Tinashe Releases 'Amethyst' Mixtape Following Critically Acclaimed Debut Album "Aquarius" [LISTEN]

Tinashe wowed critics with her debut album Aquarius and she's wasting no time releasing new music. The Los Angeles-based songstress has been featured on a slew of radio hits including Kid Ink's "Body Language" and most recently Ty Dolla $ign's "Drop That Kitty," alongside Charli XCX, but she's proving once again that she can hold her own with her latest mixtape Amethyst.

Named after her birthstone, Tinashe announced to fans, via Twitter, that she recorded the seven tracks in her bedroom over Christmas vacation. The tape features production from Ryan Hemsworth, Iamsu!, DJ Dahi, as well as Nez and Rio, among others.

The "2 On" singer first announced she would release new music just last week. Amethyst is her first mixtape release since 2013's Black Water. As previously reported, Tinashe plans to release another album this year. With a seemingly nonstop flow of new music, the 22-year-old may very well be on her way to becoming the leader of female R&B, a role she believes she is equipped to take on.

"I have extremely high expectations so this is by no means where I'm content," she said in a clip with Game Changers presented by Vibe. "I have a lot of work left to do. I believe I can be the leader of female R&B. I believe anybody has the potential to be the leader in female R&B. It's just about taking control over your career and really building it to a place where you believe in it and a lot of other people. So I don't know. The sky is the limit."

According to reports by XXL, Tinashe was slated to appear as a supporting act on Iggy Azalea's The Great Escape Tour along with Nick Jonas but things came to a halt when the "Fancy" rapstress decided to postpone the tour. Tinashe wraps the European leg of her Aquarius world tour on March 17 in Finland. Take a listen to Amethyst after the jump and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
