The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber taped over the weekend and, from initial reports, it sounds like the comedians showed no mercy. Kevin Hart, who took the duties of roastmaster for the special, shared a few details on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, March 16, about the show. The seasoned stand-up said things got rough for Bieber during the ceremony, which will air March 30.
Hart joked with Kimmel in the video below that there were points during the roast when he thought Biebs was going to cry.
"You know how you can look at a person and they're trying to have a good time, but you can tell there's a tear?" he asked, using hilarious facial expressions to illustrate the laughing/crying phenomenon. "It's like a laugh, but it's not. I kept pointing at him like, 'You'd better hold back, boy. You don't let them cameras see it come down.' There was one knee slap where I think he covered up a cry."
The comedian took a serious tone when talking about the end of the show, when Bieber acknowledged that he has struggled with the limelight in recent years. He promised the drama would cease and that he would make fans proud.
"I think that's such a nice place to do it because it's like, 'Hey, let me be an adult. Let me be a man now and let me go on with my life,'" Hart added about Biebs.
The young pop star was not the only target at the ceremony. Some comics also made jokes at the expense of Paul Walker, who died tragically in a car accident in 2013. Those cracks were cut from the special.
"Roasts often push the limits of good taste and we give the participants full rein to try things knowing we have the edit to shape the show," a Comedy Central representative said. "Sometimes the line is discovered by crossing it. The Paul Walker references will not be in the telecast."
