Drake, Attack Films in War of Words Over 'Drake: Homecoming' Film: 'Energy' Rapper Signed Contract for Documentary in 2009

There's more drama brewing behind the new documentary Drake: Homecoming: The Lost Footage. The little-heard about movie, which is set to his theatres this Thursday (March 19) was disowned by Drake and his company OVO on Monday (March 16) over Twitter. But now, the producers on the film are saying that the "Energy" rapper actually signed a contract for the film and is now only battling them over money. This could all possibly wind up in a $15 million libel lawsuit.

Producers/Drake associates J. Prince and Jas Prince as well as the company Attack Media are claiming that Drake won't acknowledge or promote Drake: Homecoming over money.

Drake signed on to film the documentary in 2009 for $15,000 and 15 percent of the documentary's net profits, according to The LA Times. And while that was fine for Drake six years ago, it won't cut it now.

(Drake: Homecoming was shot in May 2009, just one month before Drizzy signed with Lil Wayne's Young Money Records.)

"Fifteen percent back when he was nobody ... and [$15,000] handed to him in a paper bag, that's a lot," said Attack Films chairman Mark Berry. "[But] I think he wants a higher percentage of the movie."

"I think he thought nothing was going to happen with the film," he said. "It's an issue of someone not honoring a contractual commitment to another person."

As for Drake's lack of involvement in the film after the concert was cut? Well... "There was no participation [from] Drake in the deals, because frankly he wasn't needed," said Berry. "Did we want him on board for it? Absolutely. But he just wasn't coming to the table, for whatever reason."

And because of Drake's tweet and OVO's dismissal that they only release "video/film that is of the highest quality for their brand and what their fans have come to expect," Attack Films, Berry and the Prince brothers may now be looking to sue Drake for $15 million and libel.

"We can drag him into a stadium tomorrow if we wanted to," Berry said. "Personally, I think he should honor his commitments. Even if he does a show and the proceeds go to charity, doesn't matter to us. Bottom line is, you signed a contract. You got to honor it."

Despite the drama, Drake: Homecoming will be released at AMC Theaters for one-night only on Thursday, March 19.
