Common has announced that the title of his tenth studio album will be Nobody Smiling. The name is a tribute to his hometown of Chicago, where Common hopes to take on the issue of violence. In an interview with Revolt, he said that the album was originally going to be an EP but was expanded as he wrote more and more songs.
He will be working alongside esteemed producer and longtime collaborator, No I.D., who helmed Common's first three albums, 1992's Can I Borrow A Dollar, 1994's Resurrection and 1997's One Day It Will All Make Sense.
About the "call-to-action" behind the album, Common explained, "We came up with this concept Nobody Smiling [and it] was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago, or that is going on in Chicago. ...It may not be to the numbers that happening in Chicago, but it's happening in the inner cities all over America. So we're talking about the conditions of what's happening when I say Nobody Smiling, but it's really a call to action."
