Rihanna Denies New Album 'R8' Will Be Released with Launch of Jay Z's Tidal Streaming Service

There's a big splash rising on social media today (March 30), as the impending re-launch of Jay Z's new streaming service Tidal inches ever closer. With big name stars like Rihanna, Coldplay, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and more throwing their support behind the hi-fi Spotify competitor, surely a new album or big announcement is set to come during the 5 p.m. press conference, right? Well, if you're expecting Rihanna's hotly anticipated "R8" album, you're still in for a long wait.

i-D initially reported that Rihanna's new album could very well be debuting on Tidal tonight (March 30). Citing Rihanna and Jay Z's close working relationship and ever-building hype surrounding Rihanna's Unapologetic follow-up with the recent releases of "FourFiveSeconds" and "B*tch Better Have My Money," the website claimed that a surprise release of "R8" would be just the hype needed to launch Tidal into a new wave of streaming...

But, according to Rihanna, that is just not happening. The pop diva dismissed the album release rumors on her Twitter, simply calling i-D's story "lies."

So, for now, there's still no word on when that Rihanna album will finally drop. Rihanna's "R8" denial doesn't mean that something big won't happen today during Tidal's release press conference. Other rumors suggest that Kanye West's So Help Me God could drop on the service or there may even be a new Beyoncé/Jay Z record out there.

Even if no new album drops with the official launch of Tidal, there's no denying that there's a huge amount of celebrity support out there, with everyone from Jason Aldean to Daft Punk to Nicki Minaj appearing in a jam-packed Tidal promo video.
