Drake mixes beats in the studio with Bobby Moynihan, Jay Pharoah in 'Saturday Night Live' promos [WATCH]

Drake started from the bottom and now he's hosting Saturday Night Live. The Nothing Was The Same rapper is whipping out his acting chops for the first time in years this week, as he is set to host and be the musical guests on this week's SNL.

Today (Jan. 15), NBC posted a series of teaser commercials for the Drake led episode, wherein he's in the studio with cast members Bobby Moynihan and Jay Pharoah, and well, they're trying to make some beats.

The first gag in the promo features Moynihan telling Drizzy he's made him a cut of music featuring some "cool cats." As one could expect, the music features actual kitten meows, but Drake still seems into the idea.

Perhaps cat music could be the hot new music trend for 2014. Move aside, electronica!

The real highlight of the promos appears at the end of the comedy string, wherein both Moynihan and Pharoah promise Drake they've been busying laying down beats, mixing beats and flipping beats in the studio, a claim Drake denies to both comedians. In the end, they join together to speak perfectly in unison to Drake, and then they reveal their beat, which is... well, not so "dope."

And a Drake SNL promo wouldn't be complete without a mention of his Degrassi days. Though he rarely brings it up, Drake (né Aubrey Graham) plays off his Canadian soap opera days by delivering a dramatic, tear-inducing monologue. Perhaps this weekend we'll see the return of wheelchair Jimmy, Craig and Ashley! (But probably not...)

Drake's episode of Saturday Night Live will air this Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11:30 p.m. He will be the third major pop player to both host and perform this season on SNL. Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga both dominated 30 Rock to support their new albums last year.
