As previously reported, Jack White has revealed that he is "producing two albums this month, and finishing them," clarifying that "one of them is mine." After evidence was confirmed from a source associated with the project (via Consequence of Sound), the other album might be a covers album with Neil Young.
According to veteran music journalist Michael Goldberg's blog, White and Young have recorded a full album together to be released on White's Third Man Records and possibly Young's current label, Warner Bros. Records.
Rumors of the collaboration were first mentioned last month on Neil Young's fan site, Thrashers Wheat. The initial posting reported that the effort would include 12 cover songs by renowned singer-songwriters with no Neil Young originals.
Suspense grew after Young was at the Third Man Recording Booth in Nashville last spring to record a cover of Bert Jansch's "Needle of Death" for Record Store Day 2013.
According to Goldberg, the album will likely include "Needle of Death" as well as Phil Ochs "Changes" Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain," Ivory Joe Hunter's "Since I Met You Baby" and Tim Hardin's "Reason To Believe." These are all songs that Young played at the 2013 Farm Aid concert.
All of this has yet to be confirmed, but we'd love to hear White and Young team up on some songs. We will update you as more information becomes available. Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
