The Pinkprint rapper Nicki Minaj recently explained why it's important to be a boss. The Trinidad-born but New-York-raised rapper shared details on the progress of her new album and why she looks up to Jay Z.
In an interview with Glamour, Minaj dished on her plans for her new album and who she draws inspiration from.
"I wanted to take my time with [my new album] and show people I was capable of making something people could really relate to," Minaj tells Glamour. "Jay Z has always been a role model because he inspires people [to believe] they can go from selling drugs to being one of the most celebrated businessmen of our time. That's what I want to do for young girls, to say, 'It doesn't matter where you started in your life. You too can become a mogul and anything you want to be.'"
In regards to the way she dresses, Minaj ensured that her new toned down look was her decision and nobody else's. The rapper told Glamour that although her look is toned down, she was still a "businesswoman closing humongous deals..." even with her former pink hair.
Minaj is currently in the midst of her world tour The Pinkprint Tour. Her latest album The Pinkprint released on iTunes in December of 2014.
In regards to The Pinkprint, Minaj expressed having peace with that album since she believes it was an opportunity to push a woman's voice in a male-dominated genre.
"We don't have a lot of women who have a huge voice in hip-hop, so the odds that a man in hip-hop will sit down and listen to The Pinkprint in its entirety are not in my favor," she told Glamour. "You just have to do your work, and someday, hopefully, you will get the credit you deserve. And if I don't, I have a lot of inner peace with my own work, because I know that I pushed myself and this album came out just the way I wanted it to."
