After hearing the Flume remix recently, Dutch powerhouse DJ Tiësto has unveiled his remix for Sam Smith's hit single "Lay Me Down." Known in recent years for his uptempo progressive house tracks, the "Wasted" DJ and his production team takes a more mellow approach with this remix, ditching the festival-driven sound for something befitting Sam Smith's voice and aesthetic.
Sam Smith's soaring and emotive vocals are treated with a soft piano and an easygoing bass line that would make this an ideal fit as the finale for a festival set this summer for the world-traveling Dutchman. It follows the same type of sound as his version of John Legend's "All of Me," which secured the DJ his first ever Grammy win this past year. Listen to the remix below via Hypetrack.
The Tiësto remix comes on the heels of Australian Flume's quirky and glitched-out remix of "Lay Me Down." Capitol Records is putting together an all-star cast of DJs to get their hands on Sam Smith's recent single to take it apart and make it their own, and the two who have revealed their work so far have done an excellent job.
Tiësto has been busy recently making his foray into the pop world, making records with radio appeal and remixing major pop acts. He did an official remix for Icona Pop's breakout single "I Love It" before collaborating with the duo on his album A Town Called Paradise. He reworked Charli XCX's "Break the Rules" into something fit for a mainroom last year.
The Dutch DJ released his sixth LP last year, A Town Called Paradise on Casablanca Records. The album produced singles like "Redlights" and "Wasted" featuring Matthew Koma and peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Top 200. Both singles received a fair amount of play on both terrestrial and satellite radio.
