It's been a long journey for the Arctic Monkeys, but the British alt-rock band has finally reached No. 1 in America. The band's lead single from its fifth studio album AM "Do I Wanna Know?" has climbed to the top spot on Billboard's Alternative Songs Chart seven months after it debuted.
According to Billboard, "Do I Wanna Know?" passed Cage The Elephant's "Come A Little Closer" this week (Jan. 21) to top the Alternative Songs Chart in its 20th week.
Furthermore, "Do I Wanna Know?" is also Arctic Monkeys' first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100. Thus far, the song has peaked at No. 83 on the chart.
Though Arctic Monkeys are (arguably) the biggest band in the UK and have a solid showing of fans in the United States and sell out shows around the country, the band's success hasn't quite translated to the charts.
"Do I Wanna Know?" is only Arctic Monkeys' second appearance on the Alternative Songs chart with their breakout hit "I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor" in 2006. That track peaked at No. 7 on the Alternative Songs Chart.
Arctic Monkeys will celebrate its first US No. 1 with a sold-out American tour, beginning Jan. 30. The string of shows will begin in Miami at The Fillmore.
