Could Lady Gaga be entering the world of voice acting? In a newly surfaced email from the Sony email hacks, the Cheek to Cheek singer is reportedly attached to play the role of Betty Boop in an upcoming film produced by Simon Cowell.
In an email published by WikiLeaks, Gaga is slated to take on the voice of the legendary animated character Betty Boop in an untitled feature film. She's also expected to provide music to the film's soundtrack.
"Lady Gaga is attached to voice Betty Boop & do some of the music," the leaked email from Columbia Pictures executive Lauren Abrahams reads. The movie is also slated to follow the footprint of the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit? by being an animated/live action hybrid.
Despite the big names attached to the project, the Sony executives aren't too keen on the idea of the movie. "Neither of us thinks we should do it, and we've also run the brand by marketing who aren't inclined either (George was going to do some more research on the brand's power). To us it feels weirdly sexualized yet childlike (esp with Gaga) and not sure really who it's for in a big mainstream way," Abrahams wrote.
Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad agreed, writing "It sounds kind of weird to me to be honest. I don't mind if we don't chase it."
The Betty Boop movie, first announced in August 2014 by Variety, is set to be produced by Syco Entertainment. Few details about the film have been confirmed, including Gaga's potential involvement.
