All Fab Four fan eyes have been on Ringo Starr the past week thanks to his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But now there's some news from fellow Beatle John Lennon's camp. Eight of Lennon's solo albums, most of which are currently out of print on the LP format, will be reissued as a nine-LP vinyl box set called Lennon, Rolling Stone reports.
The records, which were recorded between 1970 and 1984, have all been remastered from their original analog master and have been cut to 180-gram vinyl from those ultra-high-res digital files. The artwork and packaging will faithfully replicate the original U.K. releases. The records are available individually (starting Aug. 21) and in the box set (starting June 9). You can pre-order the box set here.
The box set, which holds the LPs in a rigid slipcase box, includes John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Imagine (complete with the original poster and two postcards), Some Time in New York City (with original postcard), Mind Games, Walls and Bridges (with fold-over flaps and an eight-page booklet), Rock 'n' Roll, Double Fantasy, and Milk and Honey. You can check out the artwork now on Lennon's official website.
The remastered albums were previously released digitally and on CD in 2010 -- to celebrate what would've been his 70th birthday -- as the John Lennon Signature Box, which included bonus tracks and an EP of non-album singles.
Yoko Ono and engineers at Abby Road Studios and New York's Avatar Studios were responsible for remastering the records from their original mixes. The new vinyl masters were cut at Abby Road.
