Haters may want to deny Lady Gaga's icon status, but the Songwriters Hall of Fame begs to differ. Today (April 23), the hall announced that the recently engaged pop star will be receiving its first ever Contemporary Icon Award.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame is celebrating Gaga as someone "who has attained an iconic status in pop culture," ABC News reports. Over some of her contemporaries, Gaga was chosen for the Icon Award due to her hand in writing her hits such as "Poker Face," "Just Dance," "Born This Way" and "Applause," according to the Hall of Fame's website. She's also being celebrated for her diversity thanks to her collaborations with everyone from Beyoncé to Tony Bennett.
Gaga will be honored during a June 18 ceremony in New York City. Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia, Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper and Linda Perry will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year, while Nate Ruess and Van Morrison will be celebrated with special awards.
