May 2, 2015 marked the 17th anniversary of the battle that ended one of the most beloved and widespread book series, Harry Potter. JK Rowling took to Twitter and seized the opportunity to apologize for killing off one of the series most favored ginger-haired characters, Fred Weasley, during the fictional,1998 Battle of Hogwarts, notes MTV News.
On May 2 , Rowling announced on Twitter "Today I would just like to say: I'm really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire*" One fan replied with "What about Tonks, Lupin?" referring to other adored characters including Nympadora Tonks and Remus Lupin. Rowling responded to the somber fan with "I thought I might apologise for one death per anniversary. Fred was the worst for me, so I started with him."
Super fans may find solace knowing that Fred's death in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows genuinely impacted Rowling just as it did the outraged fans--leaving George Weasley without the other half of the Weasley twins. With 363 days left until Rowling debuts her next apology, fans will be racking their brains trying to guess which character is worthy of taking second place on the confession list next to Fred.
