The Grammys were the source of seemingly half the music stories published this week, but that doesn't mean the music awards season is over. The nominations were just released for the Academy of Country Music Awards, and odds are the results will be a little different from those of the country genre at the Grammys. Topping the list for total nominations is Tim McGraw and Miranda Lambert, both up for seven prizes.
Both performers are logically up for Entertainer of The Year, and both also have a nominee for Single of The Year as well (Lambert for "Mama's Broken Heart" and McGraw for "Highway Don't Care"). Both are up for Vocalist of The Year for their respective genders, and McGraw's Two Lanes of Freedom is also up for album of the year.
Other performers up for plenty of prizes include Keith Urban (six nominations) and Lambert's husband Blake Shelton, who will also be hosting the ceremony. Luke Bryan received three nominations, which still seems a bit low considering the huge success of his album Crash My Album.
One plot line that might be different from the Grammys is who'll grab the award for Album of The Year and Song of The Year. Kacey Musgraves took both awards at the Grammys, but the ACMs might reflect more popular outcomes. Musgraves, who won Best Country Song for "Merry Go 'Round," isn't even nominated for the ACM equivalent. She got a nomination for Album of The Year for Same Trailer Different Park but her competition (Bryan, Shelton, McGraw, Florida Georgia Line) are more popular on the country radio circuit.
Entertainer of the Year allows for true suspense however, as fans are able to vote for their favorites online leading up to the event.
