To help raise awareness for the recently launched Happy Hippie Foundation, Miley Cyrus has conducted star-studded Backyard Sessions recorded in the singer's own backyard. The fourth session features Cyrus with Against Me! front-woman Laura Jane Grace for an acoustic, stripped down version of "True Trans Soul Rebel," originally performed by the Florida punk band, notes Spin.
Cyrus allows Grace to shine in this rendition of Against Me!s Transgender Dysphoria Blues track by only lending vocal assistance during the chorus--the album was listed as one of Rolling Stone's 50 Best Albums of 2014. Cyrus began the Backyard Sessions with Joan Jett whom she recently helped induct into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The duo first sang "Different," and Cyrus shared a solo cover of "No Freedom" by Dido before launching into "Androgynous" by the Replacements alongside Jett and Grace.
Cyrus' Happy Hippie Foundation is an organization with the goal to raise money and awareness for youth involved in the LGBT community--a particularly important cause for Cyrus who chose a homeless teen to accept her MTV Video Music Award.
The Bangerz singer follows the idea of "being whoever it is that I want to be, and also constantly learning and evolving," she told Rolling Stone. "That's what's wrong with [RFRA supporters] -- they're not choosing to live that way. And if you don't choose to live that way, you're not going to last in this generation because we are overtaking you. They are dinosaurs, and they are dying off. We are the new generation, and with that will come so much."
Backyard Sessions will see two more guests including Ariana Grande and Melanie Safka. To learn more about the Happy Hippie Foundation or make donations, visit the official site here.
