Mother's Day Brawl: More Than 100 People Involved Revere Beach Fight

More than 100 people were involved in a massive Mother's Day brawl at Massachusetts' Revere Beach. State police confirmed at least twelve people were arrested in connection with the fight that drew immense amounts of traffic and kept officers from patrolling other areas.

Revere Police Sgt. Charlie Ovino told Boston.com that the fight was reported at 6:15 p.m. Between 300 and 400 people flocked to observe the conflict, making it difficult for police to assess and manage the situation. Spectator Tushar Batra began filming the fight at Revere Beach and sent it in to NECN.

"It's very busy down there because of the weather, and then one thing happens, and no one wants to leave," Ovino said. "It was extremely bad. We sent our prisoner wagon and it couldn't even make it through."

Mayor Dan Rizzo explained that the brawl began between two females, according to NECN. It started to quickly multiple when their boyfriends and friends jumped in, resulting in a growing war where bottles and rocks were tossed at pedestrians and police alike.

Ovino continued to explain that the battle was "under control" by Sunday night, but the crowd of spectators remained in close proximity over two hours afterwards. Police officers congregated to the scene of the fight, hailing from Lynn, Chelsea, MBTA Transit, Boston, Winthrop, Everett and state environmental police, all ready and willing to assist the state troopers already at the scene.

As of 10 p.m. on Sunday, there were no reported minor or serious injuries, although some may appear later on tonight or tomorrow. Every on-call officer was present at Revere Beach as well as all East Boston officers. Revere police admitted this to be the second largest fight to break out in the past two weeks.
