Hangout Festival attendees were disappointed to hear that Sam Smith had canceled several months of touring heading into the summer as he recovers from vocal chord surgery. The "Stay With Me" crooner was set to be one of the headliners at the festival, but now that spot was left vacant by his departure. Hangout originally shuffled some bands around and gave them longer sets, but they have found their final replacement for Smith in the form of Skrillex and Diplo as Jack Ü.
As a result, Jack Ü will headline the Boom Boom Tent on Friday, May 15 with a two-hour set. They will compete against the Foo Fighters on the Hangout Stage. Umphrey's McGee had originally been flexed into the two hour time slot at night, but now they have been moved to Surf Stage on the beach for a 5:00-6:15 set. Paramore has also been moved to a 7:30-8:45 slot on the Surf Stage.
The addition makes sense for Hangout as Saturday night both artists will be performing. Skrillex will be capping off the Surf Stage from 7:30-8:45 and then Major Lazer will headline the Boom Boom Tent opposite Zac Brown Band.
The new changes will impact how some fans plan out their festival, when whenever you can get two superstars like Diplo and Skrillex ready to throw a huge party, you take it.
Jack Ü have become one of the hot festival acts this summer. The pair was recently announced as the surprise headliner for Chicago's Spring Awakening in June. The duo is gearing up for a very busy summer that also includes several dates on the Mad Decent Block Party tour.
Skrillex and Diplo will join a festival that boasts a lineup featuring acts like Father John Misty, Future Islands, Odesza, Beck, Foster The People, My Morning Jacket, TV On The Radio and many more.
