With most of the country focusing on the upcoming big football match last week (the Super Bowl, guys), you might've missed some great new songs that were released. This week debuted brand new tracks from Wye Oak, ABUELA, Mainland, and many more great artists. We have plenty of tracks to work with for our mixtape, so let's get started!
Wye Oak is releasing one of the most anticipated albums of 2014 entitled Shriek on April 29, so of course the first track released off of this record was a huge deal this week. Apparently this duo is ditching guitars for a different sound, and "The Tower" lets fans forget the worries over the change.
RIYL: St. Vincent, Feist
ABUELA is the musical collaboration between one member of Ratatat and another member of The Anniversary. Listen to "True Colors" now and enjoy the sounds influenced by Peru.
RIYL: "The mysteries of Peru"
Are you looking to brighten your day up a bit? Listen to the awe-inspiring tune "Concorde" from Incan Abraham and try not to groove too hard!
RIYL: Local Natives, U2, Antlers
Sister Crystals' new song "White" is definitely one of the stand out tracks of the first couple months of 2014. Embelishing on indie-pop dreamscape tunes form Beach House or Best Coast, this psychedelic song proves that Sister Crystals is a band that will make a name for itself in 2014
RIYL: Tame Impala, Beach House, Rilo Kiley
There were a handful of great remixes from the week, so lets check some of them out. Listen to some interesting takes on great songs from Delorean, Future, and Local Natives!
Keeping with the electronica vibe that these remixes started, we move onto a brand new song from The Presets. "Goodbye Future" is an anthemic house tune and also the first song from the Australian duo since 2012. Welcome back The Presets, everybody!
RIYL: A dance floor in Ibiza circa 1991-1992
That was fun, right? We had a good time dancing to that one, so we'll have an even better time mellowing out to the newest track from Yuck, "Athena."
RIYL: Oasis, Mazzy Star, Smashing Pumpkins
We're closing out this week's mixtape with a new track from New York garage rockers Mainland. It's hard not to enjoy "Shiner," which makes you want to get up and dance with strangers in a seedy bar. No seriously. Put this song on at a dive bar and have some fun!
RIYL: The Strokes, Eagulls
Give this new mixtape to a buddy that really enjoys discovering new indie rock bands, but you really want him or her to let loose a little with electronica. Open their minds this week!
