The hip-hop community is mourning the death of one of its one today after rapper Chinx Drugz, real name Lionel Pickens, 31, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Queens early Sunday, according to police. Pickens was struck multiple times and his passenger was struck twice in the Porsche Chinx was driving at around 4 a.m. At least seven bullets pierced the front and driver-side windows according to the New York Daily News. News has spread quickly today of the passing of the rapper signed to French Montana's Coke Boys imprint and support has poured from artists like Wiz Khalifa, Lil Durk, Meek Mill and Diddy.
His label and management confirmed the news this morning with a statement.
"It is with a heavy heart that the Legion Media Group and 4 Kings Management announce the passing of Lionel 'Chinx' Pickens this morning," an Instagram post by the Legion Media Group said. "Chinx's dedication, humor and vision will always be remembered."
Pickens performed shortly before the fatal shooting at around 2:30 a.m. at Club Red Wolf in Brooklyn.
"He was very good," said Luis Lopez, 37, manager of the club. "He was here with four or five guys. Then he left. He didn't fight with anyone."
