Pearl Jam frequently invites guests on stage to join them in performing 1989's "Rockin' in the Free World" by Neil Young. The cover has been a staple of their live show for years. According to Consequence of Sound, they asked Arcade Fire's Win Butler to be a part of the performance.
Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire were both on the lineup for the Big Day Out touring festival and topped off the event with their joint performance in Perth, Australia. Butler and Eddie Vedder traded off verses for the song and joined forces for the chorus.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, festival organizers announced that they will no longer bring Big Day Out to Perth because of low ticket sales and other issues. But at least Pearl Jam closed out the festival on a good note.
