Lil B, real name Brandon McCartney, or better known as the based god, made another appearance behind the lectern at one of the world's finest universities last week when he lectured to over 700 students at UCLA. Over his 75 minutes, Lil B touched on a wide variety of topics including love, individuality, self-worth and even communicating with turkeys.
He starts off with a quote that he "made exclusively" for the speech at UCLA. "It's an honor to be you, so make sure you care," he said.
He then moves on to the rest of his speech, which is occasionally interrupted by rousing bursts of applause from the audience and thank you's from fans. He appears to be growing into his role as a motivational speaker after giving two lectures at MIT and NYU. He continues to speak largely in a stream of conscious, with wild turns and some unpredictable anecdotes that can provide the most insight into the mindset of Lil B.
He delves into the subject of mental health and that you should always love others.
"We always have to remember the pure fact that we're good people, we're beautiful people, and you've always got to remember that. You're special. You made it. I love you. There are a lot of other people that love you. A lot of people that you might not even know."
One of the odder and more based anecdotes comes as Lil B is talking about communication with others and he remembers this time when he came across a group of turkeys and communicated with them.
"I'd seen these wild turkeys. They were hanging out in pairs, you know what I'm saying? I was in the car, and there were two of them. Recently I'd seen a family of them, like six. I was like, that is dope, man. I love it. You feel me? These animals are dealing with the modern time, like they're walking down the street," McCartney remarked. "I'm just like, man, I respect animals for really just adapting to all this new, you feel me? These buildings, the bricks, they've got their home. I was in my car and I rolled down the window. The turkeys are looking at me and I'm like, [makes a trilling turkey sound] For real! And the turkey said something back! No lie, I'm not lying. I make an effort for communication."
Lil B has been making headlines recently for his involvement in the NBA playoffs, cursing the Houston Rockets after James Harden did the cooking dance and did not credit the based god (poor choice). He endorsed the Warriors instead and almost cursed the Cavaliers, but JR Smith came to the rescue.
